Kuny AG invests in its own solar power plant

Some time ago, Kuny AG put its own solar power plant into operation.

1600 solar panels were installed on four roofs covering an area of 5200 m². These provide around 640,000 kWh of electricity per year. This corresponds to around 70 percent of Kuny AG’s total electricity consumption and reduces CO₂ emissions by a further 210 t per year. Around 410,000 kWh per year of the electricity produced can be used for the company’s own needs and the seasonal overproduction can be fed into the grid as green electricity.
The energy supply is perceived as a central task by the management. Two years ago, the Board of Directors approved the investment of over 750,000 francs. This was after the entire heating center for generating the process heat had already been renewed in 2019 and equipped with a dual-fuel burner. Thanks to a switch from heating oil to natural gas, CO₂ emissions were reduced by a further 25 percent.

Kuny AG is convinced that it has improved the company’s security of supply with its own solar power plant and has taken another important step towards Energy Strategy 2050.
